We were fortunate to start this term with a visit from Karen Kimura, Skills and Development Manager from the GDST. Each year group involved engaged in small group activities to focus on different aspects of the workplace and the skills required within it.
Year 7 thought about their potential retirement age and how jobs may change in the future. There were some extremely creative technological responses including use of iris recognition to enhance security and brain power waves which will complete our tasks with just a thought. We hope that the girls are developing their skills to bring their ideas to fruition.
Priorities in life change and Years 8 and 9 thought about the choices ahead from working for monetary reward to a balanced lifestyle or choosing security to risk taking. Branding is important in a personal sense as well as for products. The students were encouraged to describe their personal brand amidst their peers. Meanwhile Bella G and Nadia S-T in Year 8 were voted as highly employable as a result of screening their skill set.
Some student comments included:
"An enjoyable and beneficial experience because it helped identify my skills for my future career path." Elan J

Annie S thought it was fun and worthwhile having the interview practice: "I learnt a lot about myself and now know where to improve."
Himani K enjoyed it and said: "It highlighted the skills I already had and helped me develop new ones."
