Laurie Magnus Poetry Competition 2017: The Results

Highly Commended Years 3 and 4: Aleyna J. for her poem on 'Fire'
Highly Commended Years 12 and 13: Harriet W. for her poem 'Brave New World'

Years 7, 8 and 9 Winner:  Tabitha H.'s fabulous poem about Martha, 'The Girl Who Climbs Mountains'.

The poems were judged by Putney High School alumna Julia Rawlinson.  Julia would like to pass on her congratulations and admiration to all entrants.

This is what the judge wrote about Tabi's poem:

This poem manages to be very moving while also having an infectious sense of joy.  It really captures the essence of a friendship.  It makes great use of different line lengths – I love “Poor Mr Baker left us/Knowing our future careers probably didn’t lie in gymnastics”.  The short verse beginning “She made us feel happy” gives an effective quiet pause before the moving ending.

Each winner will be sent a £100 Amazon voucher,so well done, Tabitha.

Thanks to all concerned in preparing for this competition.

We are very proud of all our poets! Congratulations!
