Under 18 County Hockey Final
It was a thrilling 3-way contest on Thursday 30th November at the Under 18 County Hockey Final. Radyr Comprehensive School and Ysgol Glantaf joined Howell's School in what proved to be a very impressive standard of hockey and a great advert for the game. After a nervous 0-0 draw against Glantaf, Howell's turned it on in their second match to defeat Radyr (7-0), with the bulk of the goals being scored by Lily R. Glantaf matched that scoreline with a 7-0 victory of their own against Radyr, leaving both Howell's and Glantaf level on points and goal difference. As a result, the two teams will have to face off another time in a replay to determine the county champions and decide who progresses to the national final!

U14 Hockey Tour – Bath
On Friday 24th November, our Year 9 hockey team travelled to Bath to take part in the 2nd GDST hockey tour.
The girls faced Northampton and Portsmouth on a cold and bitter Friday evening.  We managed to field 10 players and Lottie stepped in to be goal keeper and did a great job for the team.  Fiona B scored our 1st goal.
On Saturday morning, after an early breakfast at 7am we ventured into Bath to visit the Christmas markets.  We then had to be back at the school for a quick lunch and two matches against Newcastle and Oxford.  Unfortunately we were unable to score any goals and Freya stepped up as Captain to be our goal keeper.
After our 2 hard fought games, Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE greeted us off the pitch and had a lovely informal chat and photo with the girls.
A few facts about Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE - she has made over 370 appearances and 13 years as Captain for England and GB. She was the Olympic Gold Medal winning captain and has taken part in 4 Olympic games.
Saturday evening provided us with an inspiring talk from Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE, she spoke about being 1) Visionary 2) Being the best version of you 3) Resilience. She was able to relate all of her experience to engage with the girls. She truly was an inspiration.
After dinner an early night was needed as we were to play three games the following day in our challenge to win the plate.
We played against Bath, Sydenham and Brighton, with Sophia being the only goal scorer on the Sunday.
Sadly we didn't come away with a win, however we came away with plenty to improve on and it did wonders for our team spirit.
Mrs Crawford and Mrs Hamilton were very proud of the grit and determination shown by each and every girl. There was a vast improvement from game 1 to game 7. Well done!

U12 Netball V Cowbridge
The year U12's had fantastic week with a win for both teams against Cowbridge.  The As had a great start, winning the first half 3-0. Cowbridge came back strongly in the last half, but the team managed to hold off their attack and won 5-3. Player of the match went to Alex P. The B team came from behind at half time, score being 1-0 to Cowbridge. During the second half, the team went on much settled, taking their time and not panicking. The final score was 3-1 to Howells. Player of the match was Lucy M. Massive well done to all.

U14 Netball V Radyr
The U14 Netball teams have had very tough opposition recently playing Radyr and Plasmawr, where they have many county players in the team. The players tried their best and their determination paid off and even though it was a loss for the A team they contested every pass, the Bs won against Ysgol Plasmawr 7-5.  MVP went to Selena and Jennifer, well done.

Under 15s Netball
Congratulations to the Under 15's Netball Team who are through to the county finals in March. The team played Llantwit Major Comprehensive School on Wednesday 29th November, winning 26-8 and also pulled off a convincing win against St Illtyds 18-0.

Fencing
Louise S, Year 12, has been selected to compete for GB in Denmark in January. Competing for the Senior Welsh Women on Saturday 25th November, Wales walked away with team Silver (narrowly losing to England)
Louise came in 13th in the U23 competition.  We look forward to supporting her in her bid for Commonwealth Games selection next year!

Gymnastics
Hannah J, Year 7, competed in the Welsh Championships Tumbling Competition on Saturday 25th November. Competing in the Elite/FIG age 11/12 she knew she would have to complete two clean runs in order to be in for a medal. She scored 8.45 on her first run and 9.77 on her second giving her a total of 18.2. With such a high score Hannah came away with Silver for the female only event and bronze overall. An excellent result!
