Last Friday 10th November, a group of Year 12 linguists travelled to Bath University to attend the annual ‘Spotlight on Languages’ event. Students were able to have a tour of the campus and attended taster university-style lectures on a range of interesting themes such as ‘Laughing Matters: the workings of French humour’ and ‘Latin America’s place in the world: autonomy or democracy’. They also were able to attend master classes in French, German and Spanish as well as a beginners’ Italian taster session. The students were also treated to a humorous key note speech from the Admissions Tutor for Modern Languages and European Studies, and current Bath students talked about their experiences at university and the opportunities they have had to study or work abroad for a year of the course.
