On Monday 19th June, Year 9 students Dani K, Ayesha A, Izzy H, Anoushka S and Siani K travelled to Solihull to take part in an Under 15s Debating Competition. It was run in the British Parliamentary style with each debater having only 15 minutes to prepare a 5 minute speech on three very diverse topics: the banning of combative sports; withholding major sporting events from countries with poor human rights records; and whether films should feature new female heroic characters or simply feminise existing male heroes. All the girls performed extremely well in a high level competition, with both Dani and Ayesha receiving best speaker certificates. Dani also received a medal as the top-scoring speaker in the whole competition! The awards were presented by the well-known journalist and presenter of Radio 4's 'The Moral Maze', Michael Buerk, who is an alumnus of Solihull School.
