After several weeks of intense preparation and feeling quietly confident, Chi, Hema, Ruby and Ffion set off on Monday 21st November to take part in the UKMT Senior Mathematical Team Challenge at Cardiff University. There were 18 teams competing, each comprising of 4 students from Year 12 and 13. After a quick warm-up round and feeling ready for the challenges ahead, the competition started with the Group round in which the team worked together to solve 10 challenging questions. Team Howell’s put in a strong performance in this round and also in the Cross Number round, putting them in contention for the top 3 places. The final round was the Mini Relay – the room was silent with concentration as they beavered away at these tricky questions, trying to complete them in a given time in order to be awarded bonus points. Well done to the team on coming 4th overall – an excellent performance and our best ever.
