National Year 7 Languages Spelling Bee Competition 2013-14

Our Year 7 Spelling Bee teams have enjoyed phenomenal success in the Routes into Languages Welsh National Languages Spelling Bee this year. Following a class and a school round, 16 girls in Year 7 participated in the South Wales Regional Finals in Llanelli on 2nd April. The girls had to learn 150 words which they spelled in the target language alphabet, striving to complete as many as possible in one minute. They acquitted themselves brilliantly, winning all four cups (German, French, Welsh Second Language and Spanish) and 11 students qualified for the Welsh National Final in Aberystwyth on 19th June. All the girls put in 100% effort and performed exceptionally well. We are thrilled that of the 6,000 competitors who entered since the first round in the Autumn Term, ten Howell’s girls were placed in the final, and that Aishu, Jasneet, Tanya and Eleanor won the four cups and are now National Champions. Well done, girls, on a remarkable achievement!
