Five Hywelians interviewed for Oral History Project 2016

Now in its fourth year, the Oral History Project interviewing and filming of Hywelians took place on Wednesday 27th April. This year we welcomed five Old Girls who were at school between the late 1950s and mid-1960s. The three former day girls, Kay Powell, Rowena Gaskell (née Case) and Lyn Owen (née Carolyn Hawkins), and two boarders, Catherine Morgan (née Raymond) and Sheila Phillips (née Anthony) were interviewed by Sadie E., Dani K. and Anoushka S. in Year 8. For more than an hour the Hywelians discussed their schooldays, the very strict discipline featuring prominently! Everyone enjoyed hearing some entertaining and, to us in 2016, extraordinary tales of school life at that time, especially for the boarders. The whole school will watch short excerpts from the interview at the Founders' Friday assembly on 8th July. After the session, the ladies enjoyed lunch in Mrs Davis's room and those who did not have to dash off visited the recently-refurbished Covered Way or the brand new "Hub" (the former workshop and school uniform shop in the grounds of Hazelwood). We are very grateful to the five Hywelians for agreeing so willingly to be interviewed. It was a very pleasant and instructive occasion.
