Eisteddfod Yr Urdd, Flint 2016

During last week’s half term holiday, a keen and committed mixed group of Year 9 and 10 students competed at the Urdd Eisteddfod. The group of 12 were reciting a poem called "Cabinet Ffeilio’r Nefoedd" by the Chaired Bard, Tudur Dylan. The poem talks about the idea of a spiritual leader having a filing cabinet of records of school pupils’ misdemeanours! The poet goes on to speculate what would happen if parents ever saw the contents of their child’s file!

After weeks of preparation and hard work from the girls, they finally made it to the semi-final preliminary round in North Wales. There were groups from every county in Wales competing against each other for one of the three chances to be staged on the main stage. As Howell's were the reigning champions, the group were hoping to be staged again this year. Indeed, their wish came true, and the girls performed brilliantly in front of a big audience in the main pavilion and their whole performance was televised live on S4C. Mrs Prys-Davies reports that she was very proud of their lively, enthusiastic and entertaining interpretation of the poem. This year, the group was placed third. The girls thought of it as being the third best in the whole of Wales but Mrs Prys-Davies was quick to remind them that indeed, they are, potentially now, the third in the world! She would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents who supported the event, and their company and input was greatly appreciated.

Diolch o galon ferched a Llongyfarchiadau!
