Stella Star Goes Back To School

Stella actor Mark Lewis Jones put in a surprise appearance at Howell's on Friday 30th September. The actor, who played Rob Morgan in the Welsh comedy-drama, was taking part in a special assembly to launch the school's Marie Curie “Pay For A Day” campaign to raise £6,600—the cost of running the Marie Curie Cardiff & the Vale Hospice in Penarth for a single day.

Actor Mark said: “Pay for a Day is a new Marie Curie initiative aimed at helping the charity tackle the on-going challenge of raising funding. Paying for 24 hours of care at the hospice is a way of providing patients and families with remarkable care and support. It is something I am proud to be a part of, and I am delighted that students at Howell's are showing their support."

Volunteer bereavement counsellor Luke Waddon, who was just 13 when his father died from bowel cancer in 2008, joined Mark at Howell's to tell students about the important work that Marie Curie do, and to explain how the funds that they are raising will be used.

Howell's School Principal, Sally Davis, said, "So many of us at Howell's —staff and students—have had someone we care for looked after by the Marie Curie Hospice, and our college students have already raised £1000 towards their target."

Hospice Manager Paula Elson added: “The hospice provides care and support for more than 1,200 people, and their family and loved ones, every year. None of this would be possible without the generosity of our supporters, and we are extremely grateful for the continuing level of support we receive from across Wales.”
