Former Howell's student gains the MBE for services to sport

Non Evans, who was a boarder at Howell's in the early 1990s, has been awarded the MBE for services to sport in the Queen's Birthday Honours. Non is one of Wales' all-time greatest sportswomen, having competed at the highest level in four different sports. A Welsh rugby international, she scored a record 64 tries in international events. She won two silver medals in judo at the Commonwealth Games and has also competed at world level in weightlifting and wrestling. She holds the distinction of having been the first woman to compete in two different sports at the same Commonwealth Games, which she did in judo and weightlifting in 2002. Non has also been invited to join the Gorsedd (Bardic Circle) of the Welsh National Eisteddfod; the ceremony takes place at Wrexham on 5th August. Non is a TV commentator, most notably on S4C. We warmly congratulate her on all her achievements.
