Australian visitor sees her mother’s old school

On Saturday 7th May, Mrs Margaret Caffyn from Melbourne, Australia, visited school for a tour and a look around the museum with Mrs Janet Sully, who had already sent her copies of  school magazines from her mother’s time at Howell’s. Margaret’s mother, Ann Rhiannon Griffiths, was a pupil in the 1930s and early 1940s. Rhiannon, as she was known, came from Barry and boarded in Oaklands until World War II broke out, when she became a day girl. Margaret is writing a novel based loosely on her mother’s life and it will include plenty of material about her schooldays, as apparently she often told stories about it. She went to Australia to stay with relations, met her future husband and stayed there! We look forward to reading the book in due course.
