ROUNDERS
Welsh Rounders
Congratulations to Lily R, Robyn D, Maisie R, Annabelle W, Alicia L and Evie O on their selection for Welsh Under 16’s Rounders team. Particularly impressive when these are Year 9 players being selected to play 2 years above their own age. We look forward to the international match against England on Sunday 2nd July.
Howell’s v Radyr
A mixed team of Yr 9 and 10 players played against Radyr Comprehensive School. The players struck the ball superbly in acute angles, but Radyr had some excellent deep fielders who put a stop to our players scoring. Howell’s lost the first match 8½-7, in the next match Howell’s fielded superbly: they supported each other and were very mobile around the posts hampering Radyr’s scoring chances. Howell’s won the next match 4½-3½.
Howell’s V Rougemont
Year 7
This week Year 7 played in their first rounders match against Rougemont School. Howell’s took two teams. The evening started well when one of the Year 7 girls got lost at Howell’s trying to find the school minibus which were parked at the front of school. Luckily they did not have to navigate themselves to Newport! Once we had arrived the players were keen to make a strong start. Their batting and fielding showed some real promise and there was excellent support play by backing each other up. Team sprit between the players was well demonstrated. Howell’s A team won 20-7½ and the B team won 13-1. Best players nominated by Rougemont School were Becky D and Sommer.
