Year 1 have fun with Ballet Nimba!

As part of their topic on Africa Year 1 were very lucky to have an 1½ hour dance session with the African dance company 'Ballet Nimba'. Idrissa kept the group going with his fantastic Djembe drumming, enthusiasm and humour whilst Kenzi taught the girls a dance called 'Tokwe' which is traditionally performed by young girls and originates from Ghana. Kenzi also taught the girls a singing and dancing game.

Throughout the workshop the Year 1 girls and teachers learnt lots of different dance moves and then they put these all together to create the 'Towke' which they performed to Year 6, Nursery, Reception and Year 3. Everyone was then invited to join in and dance together with Idrissa and Kenzi leading. A wonderful community spirit was felt throughout the year groups as everyone was thoroughly enjoying herself and sharing in their love of music and movement.

Thank you to Ballet Nimba for a fantastic dance workshop. http://www.balletnimba.org.uk/
