Bridges to Schools

Engineering was in the limelight at Howell’s today, as we welcomed Costain Construction to lead our annual Bridges to Schools event in the Sports Hall. Costain brought with them a prefabricated model suspension bridge and children from Year 3 in Howell’s and Lansdowne Primary School, kitted out in hard hats and high vis jackets, constructed and walked across the bridge. It gave them to opportunity to learn about bridges, civil engineering and health and safety as well as developing their team work skills. Over 90 children helped to combine their practical talents to build the 12 metre long and 3 metre high cable-stayed bridge, which is the same general design as the Second Severn Crossing. Many thanks to everyone involved who made it such a special day!
