By thinking global and acting local, the Eco School Team at Howell’s is highlighting the need for us to reduce our carbon footprint. On Friday 28th February, students are encouraged to take part in reducing their travel carbon footprint by engaging in our annual drop-off and walk/cycle to school event. We are proud that this event has grown in popularity over the years as students recognise the importance of their contribution at the local level. Given the dispersed catchment area for our school, the Eco School Team has decided upon two simple options: a ten minute drop-off zone, or a shorter five minute drop-off and walk zone. Your own personal circumstances will no doubt dictate which zone is best for you, but where possible, we encourage all parents/students to engage in this initiative by dropping off their daughter or son anywhere within the designated zones which you can see by clicking here. Students who travel by school bus will also be able to engage in this activity as the drivers will drop them off at safe locations, allowing for a short walk into school.
All those who take part in the morning will be registered on arrival at school by receiving a participation stamp, and they will automatically receive an Eisteddfod house point. Participants will also be able to take advantage of a free pain au chocolat, beans on toast or yogurt and fruit from our canteen; a truly great way to start the school day!
