Diwali Celebrations in Year 2

Diwali Celebrations in Year 2

The girls in Year 2 have been learning about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, over the past few weeks in their RS lessons. The have designed and made beautiful clay diva lamps, which they will be bringing home to share with their families. The have also investigated and created Rangoli patterns using chalks, coloured sand and ipads. Rangoli patterns are traditionally found on the floor, near a doorway, to welcome the goddess Lakshmi into the home and bring good fortune to the family, diva lamps are lit in windows and near Rangoli patterns to light a path through the darkness. Diwali falls on Saturday 14th November this year so expect to see, and hear, more fireworks this weekend as many families celebrate the Hindu festival of lights.
