English-Speaking Union Churchill Public Speaking Competition 2018

On Wednesday 21st November,  Year 11 students participated in the Cardiff heat of the English-Speaking Union Churchill Public Speaking Competition at St John’s College. Siani K, Kate M and Frances D-T competed against representatives from two other local secondary schools for the opportunity to progress to the regional finals which will take place in March.

Siani’s speech, ‘Causing offence should be a consequence of free speech, not a reason for it ’, and Kate and Frances’ performances in support of the speaker from St John’s College, were all excellent.

Unfortunately the team from Howell’s were not victorious on this occasion, though Frances was awarded the prize for best questioner.
