GDST Young Shakespeareans Day

GDST Young Shakespeareans Day

After an early start from school we arrived in London at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre to start our magical day! Susan, our tour guide, showed us around the third Globe Theatre to have been built. We learnt interesting facts about the theatre. Did you know the people who watched plays standing on the floor were called ‘Groundlings’ and the middle class people would watch from wooden benches a little higher up? We were also able to walk out from the Attiring Room onto the actual stage and recite a line from Twelfth Night. We then took part in some drama games with Year 5 girls from every other GDST school. These games included ‘Show Me’ where we had to demonstrate different feelings and characters and a Tudor Status game with playing cards. After lunch, we took part in some Tudor singing and dancing – it wasn’t easy, but it was really fun! Towards the end of the day, we completed a Reflection River where we all wrote down the things we learnt and enjoyed about the day. It was such a wonderful experience and one that we’ll never forget!
