Stop Press!

On Thursday 11th October, 8P were delighted to welcome Rachel Eling to their English lesson. Rachel now works with Mrs Yilmaz in the Marketing department at school, but in a former life she worked as a fashion journalist, and she was pleased to share some of her experiences with the girls. The students asked some great questions about the pros and cons of life as a journalist and how to break into the industry. Rachel explained how many letters she had needed to send to get work experience and encouraged the class to blog, write in school and apply for work experience too, if they were interested in writing as a career.

The girls then shared the mood board designs for their ‘Hunger Games’ tributes and put into action Rachel’s advice about remember you are telling your reader a story, whether you are writing about fashion, food or politics. They were keen to get to work, coming up with plenty of exciting and innovative ways to describe the clothes, hair, make-up and accessories, thinking carefully about Rachel’s suggestions, and there wasn’t a cliché in sight!
