Teachmeet at Howell’s: Challenging and Stretching the More Able and Talented

Over 60 teachers from across South Wales and beyond gathered at Howell’s on Tuesday 27th November for our Teachmeet event; focussing on ways to stretch and challenge all students. The wide range of speakers included Will Wareing, Deputy Director of Education at the GDST, considering aspects of school design, Louise Harris, Managing Director of the Big Learning Company, discussing the impact of Artificial intelligence on students’ future careers and our own Mrs Harrison-Hughes sharing a range of ‘ten-second tips’. Jon Murphy from NACE (the National Association of Able Children in Education) opened the event and spoke with genuine enthusiasm about the Prince William Award and the NACE Challenge Award, using his assessment visit to Howell’s in 2016 as an example. It was gratifying to hear him recalling his findings that “challenge was at the heart of everything that they do here”.
