On Wednesday 28th November, over 60 girls from Years 5 and 6 took part in the annual Tenovus Cancer Care Lovelight Carol Concert in St John’s Church in the centre of Cardiff. The choir from Howell’s Prep School was just one of many acts on the programme, which included the Tenovus Sing with Us Cardiff North & South Choirs, vocalists Demi Holborn and Richard Moulton and saxophonist Jo Wood. Hosted by ITV Wales’ Carl Edwards, the Howell’s choir sang a set of three songs and also joined the Sing with Us Choirs in a finale rendition of The Greatest Showman’s, This is Me! Interspersed through the evening’s entertainment were three poems on the theme of Lovelight, beautifully and sensitively written by girls in Year 6. During the lively concert there was also time to reflect and remember when the church lights dimmed and each member of the audience held a lit candle. Broken only by the distant strains of the music from the Christmas street market outside, this was the most poignant moment of the event. The girls from Howell’s School sang and read beautifully and the staff accompanying them were delighted by both their performance and behaviour. Thank you for your support at this event—a really special way to begin the Christmas season!
