The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

It's showtime! This week has seen the transformation of the Sports Hall into the magical land of Oz for our whole school production of The Wizard of Oz, which has involved students from Year 5 to Year 13.
When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and on their way meet a Scarecrow who is in need of a brain, a Tin Man who is missing his heart and a Cowardly Lion who is seeking courage. The foursome have some exciting and, at times, terrifying adventures along the way.
On Monday 21st October, the cast put on a full performance to an audience of 500 children from local primary schools, and then from Monday 21st until Thursday 24th the show played to a near full house each night, with spectacular acting and dancing, and plenty of well-known musical numbers including Over the Rainbow, Follow the Yellow Brick Road and If I Only Had A Brain.
Congratulations to director Mrs Rees, musical director Ms Edwards and choreographer Mrs Manning, the show was a triumph as always. Many thanks also to everyone else involved in the show; a large scale production like this is very much a team effort, both on and off the stage, and we would never pull it off without such sterling support from staff, students, parents and friends.
The audiences left the auditorium happily humming the terrific tunes!
