On Friday 12th July, our Year 10 historians, accompanied by the History teachers and Mrs Reed, enjoyed a superb tour of the First World War battlefields. They left school just after sunrise and returned on Monday evening having had a great experience.
Among the highlights were the wreath laying ceremony at Mametz Wood, attending the last post at the Menin Gate, exploring the pretty town of Ypres, piano playing in Talbot House where the soldiers went to relax, shopping for Belgium chocolate, walking the trenches at Hill 62 and listening to birdsong on the Somme.
Our guide, Mr Reed, ensured the students learnt a great deal about the experience of the soldiers on the Western Front.
