Cardiff Games Ski Competition

On Wednesday 25th November, seven girls from Years 7-9 participated in the first ever ski race as part of the Cardiff Games. This was a competition aimed at recreational skiers of all abilities, including novice skiers with just six hours of training. After a good warm-up, the skiers completed four timed runs on the slalom course, with the fastest run counting. Medals were awarded for individual boys and girls in novice and experienced categories. Congratulations go to Lilli J. (Year 8) who came first in the experienced girls’ category, and to Fiona B. (Year 7) who came second.
All our competitors skied very well and were a credit to the school. Thank you to the following for participating as well: Holly B. (Year 9), and Ella K., Sacha H., Katie G. and Isabelle W. (all in Year 8).

We are always looking for new skiers of all abilities to join our ski team and give slalom a go. There is a wide range of lessons running at Cardiff Ski and Snowboard Centre in Fairwater (tel: 029 20 561793) from advanced slalom and race training to beginners’ courses. Our next competition will be the Cardiff and South East Wales Schools' Slalom Competition in the Summer Term. We will be aiming to enter several teams of different abilities. For anyone who wants to get started, Cardiff Ski and Snowboard Centre are running a two-day “Learn to Ski” course on 29th-30th December.
