Maths Week 23rd – 27th November

Maths Week began with the College maths prefects, Jessica, Lily and Caitlin, and the Year 11 maths prefects, Gopikaa and Mansi, giving an assembly on ‘Maths in Art and Nature’. They informed us of the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci numbers that can be found in nature; for instance, the number of petals on a flower is often a Fibonacci number. They finished by challenging the audience to guess some mathematical catch phrases – with our infamous ‘smelly stickers’ as prizes. During the week Year 7 were busy trying their hand at code-breaking and several have been successful in using it to solve the Maths Week competition, ‘Murder in the Maths Department’. During a lunchtime Year 7 Maths Club enjoyed creating 3D bubble shapes using straws, pipe-cleaners and lots of soapy water! They produced some amazing 3D bubbles. Year 8 rounded off the week having fun competing in a ‘Maths Relay Race’. An exciting week in the Maths Department!
