Year 1's Trip to find Santa!

Year 1's topic for this term has been "Into the Woods" and, as a culmination,  their 'fabulous finish' was a trip to Cwmcarn Forest on Tuesday 8th December. During their visit they followed a trail through the forest left by 'Stick Man'. The girls first identified which Christmas decorations  would be found naturally in a forest. They then threw carrots into a bucket for Rudolph and followed his hoof prints. Stick Man then left them a message to tell them how lonely he was feeling, so they made their own stick men. They then followed snowflakes which had fallen from Santa's sleigh in the hope that they would lead them to Santa himself.  After they had sung a rendition of 'Jingle Bells' and 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer', Santa came down through the trees to see them as he had heard the girls' beautiful singing.

Santa took the girls up to the log circle where the elves had been busily making toys and they drank some warming hot chocolate. When they got inside, out of the blustery wet weather, they listened to the story of 'Stick Man' by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The girls then followed Santa through to his magical ice kingdom and had a lovely individual conversation with him before receiving a special woodland Christmas present. They also made beautiful wooden Christmas Tree decorations.

Many thanks to all  the mums, and gran, who accompanied us on our trip, and also to Natural Resources Wales for organising and running such an enjoyable and educational trip. http://your.caerphilly.gov.uk/cwmcarnforest/content/welcome We all had a magical Christmas trip into the woods. This was a really special end to a super term's topic!
