Howell's students debate in Oxford Union

On Saturday, February 6th, Year 10 students Caitlin C., Naymal S. and Doriana D., and Year 8 students Siani K., Ayesha A. and Dani K. rose very early to travel by train to the regional round of the International Competition for Young Debaters held in Oxford University. The girls were in three debating teams, all of whom took part in three rounds of debating. The topics were: the banning of meat eating; proportional representation in UK general elections; and the benefits or drawbacks of streaming in schools. All the girls did very well in their first British Parliamentary style debating competition, with Dani and Ayesha even managing to take first place in one of their debates! After watching the regional final, won by one of the teams from Eton, the girls were ready for the Domino's pizzas provided by the organisers before travelling back to Cardiff. All the speakers can feel proud of their debating skills. Congratulations to Caitlin C., who was the top Howell's speaker on the day, and to all our 'young debaters'.
