Howell's students make their voices heard!

Eleven members of the Senior School Debating Club, drawn from Years 8-11, went to the Pierhead Building in Cardiff Bay on February 26th to participate in a EurVoice event. After a presentation on the work of the Welsh Assembly, they were split into groups with students from other schools to take part in discussions focussing on Welsh independence, Wales and the European Union and education in Wales. One of the groups was led by our own European Youth Parliament student, Kaya S. (Year 13).The students were then well prepared for a Question Time session with a panel consisting of event sponsor Jenny Rathbone (Labour), Ian Johnson (Plaid Cymru), Angela Jones-Evans (Conservative) and Anthony Slaughter (Green Party). The Howell's girls were pleased to hear that, while the panellists disagreed on most issues, they were all in agreement that the voting age should be lowered to sixteen. The girls had a very enjoyable and informative day, confidently asking questions and expressing their opinions.
