Cambridge Debating Finals Day

Congratulations to Udita D. and Nia M-R. for competing in the Cambridge Finals Day on February 28th. They took part in four debates on very challenging topics: the creation of special, women-only economic zones in developing countries; compulsory long-acting contraception prior to passing a parenting test; the calculation of income tax on the basis of an individual's social privilege rather than monetary remuneration; the portrayal of Islamic terrorists as demons in the western media. The girls argued coherently and forcefully in all four debates, taking on some of the top debaters in the UK. While they did not make the break, they thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the exceptionally high quality of debating in the final. They will no doubt employ some of the strategies observed when they go to the Oxford Schools' Debating Finals with their co-debaters Will B. and Anisa H. in two weeks' time. Well done, girls, and good luck for the next competition!
