Sport news: week beginning 1st March

Renee M. and Emily C. (Year 9) have been selected to compete for the Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Schools’ athletics team at the Welsh Sportshall Finals which will be held at Cwmbran Stadium on Sunday, March 13th. Many congratulations!

The Howell’s football team had an outstanding 11-0 win against St John’s College last week. An amazing result from a very committed team! Well done!

Congratulations to Marnie B., who has been invited to attend an intense training camp in Majorca from 28th June to 5th July. The camp is aimed at swimmers who have the potential to qualify for the British National Championships this summer in Sheffield at the end of July. Marnie is currently ranked in the top 24 in Britain for both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events. We wish her the best of luck! India is also attending. If you know of anyone else taking part do let us know.

The Year 7 netball teams played Corpus Christi on Tuesday 1st March. The A team narrowly missed out with a 5-3 loss, playing with great team effort and spirit! Congratulations to Jennifer E. who won “player of the match” The B team had a great 6-2 win, with Georgie S. receiving “player of the match”. Well done to all the girls for their continued commitment to training and matches this season.

The Year 10 netball team played Llantwit, Cowbridge and Bishop of Llandaff in their County Qualifying Netball Tournament on Wednesday 2nd March. The team won two out of three matches, narrowly missing out on the county finals. Well done to all the girls who played; it was a great effort! 

On Wednesday our Year 8 hockey team entered the County Qualifying Tournament held at Whitchurch. The girls played superbly, with a 4-0 and a 6-0 win! The girls are now through to the County Finals next week! Well done, girls, and good luck for next week!
