Year 8 hockey team are County champions!

After a very strong year of performances by the Year 8 Hockey team, with only one loss at The Red Maids' School, Bristol, to their name, the girls qualified for the County Final at Ysgol Glantaf on Tuesday 8th March. In what is widely recognised as a very strong year for hockey across the county, the standard of play did not disappoint. Despite a nervous start and a very high quality of opposition, the girls did very well to defeat Llanishen High School in their opening match, with Lilli J getting the only goal in a 1-0 victory. The reigning champions, Ysgol Glantaf, were next up. Despite an end-to-end battle that saw both teams come very close on numerous occasions, the tense game ended 0-0. At that point, Howell's School were not aware of what would be required in their final game to win the title, but following Llanishen High School's defeat of Ysgol Glantaf, the girls realised that they would win the title if they were to beat Ysgol Bro Morgannwg. They did this in style, with a 4-0 victory! All goals came from the stick of Lily R who had a fantastic afternoon. Despite some excellent performances by every member of the team, special mentions must go to Nia H, Robyn D and Annabelle W, who were particularly formidable in preventing all three opponents from scoring a single goal.

Well done to all involved in this great achievement. The commitment by every girl at Monday evening practices has helped with the team's impressive progression this year!
