SPORTS NEWS 22nd September 2016

NETBALL 
Congratulations to the Year 9 Netball Teams who played Bro Edern School on 14th September. The A team played a fast paced match against Bro Edern, the County Winners of 2015. Congratulations to Lily R who was awarded Player of the Match. The B Team played a fantastic match and drew 4 all, with Nia H winning Player of the Match for her excellent defence. Well done to all the girls who played; Robyn D, Isabelle W, Georgia MP, Lily R, Lucy C, Annabelle W, Jessica J, Nia H, Ava F, Esther P, Katie G, Evie O. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A mixed Year 10 & 11 Netball Team took part in the Cardiff Games Netball Tournament on Monday at Talybont. Howell's came second in their pool and went into the Cup competition as we had come in the top four teams.
Howell's players played superbly in attack and defence. We won two out of our three matches, and the tournament ended with a three way tie at the top.
Congratulations to all the players who received medals and the winning cup!

 

 

 

 

 

 

CYCLING
Congratulations to Jack Broadley who had another successful summer with his Cycling. In the Ras de Cymru 2016 he came 1st in the Junior and 5th overall. In the Junior Tour of Wales he achieved 41st overall and top 10 on Stage 2. In the Ben Carroll Memorial Road Race he was ranked 1st in the Junior and 7th overall. Great achievements, well done Jack!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SWIMMING
This weekend was the Monmouthshire County Swimming Gala in Newport. Louise S (Year 11) was in the 15+ age group and had 4 Bronze medals (also all PBs for her) - 200 breast, 100 breast, 100 fly and 200 back! Well done, Louise!

HOCKEY
Great news from Lily R (Year 9), who has been selected for the Wales National Age Group, U16 Hockey Squad. Congratulations!

TENNIS
Alicia L, (Yr 9), has just been selected for the U14 South Wales Regional Squad. Alicia and three other girls from South Wales will train with the Welsh National Coach every week. Fantastic news, Alicia!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

FENCING
Following on from last week’s news, congratulations to Louise S (Year 11) who has been selected from the first reserve place to represent Wales in Fencing at the Seniors Five Nations in Manchester in November.

SOUTHERN GDST SPORTS RALLY
On Tuesday 20th September, the PE Department at Howell's hosted the first ever Southern GDST Sports Rally. Held between the Sport Wales National Centre and Howell’s School, teams from Howell’s, Bath, Oxford, Brighton and Hove and Portsmouth competed in Badminton, Rounders and Tennis. 
Congratulations to Year 9’s Alicia L, Sophie S, Robyn D and Evie O who won the Tennis tournament overall. 
The combined Year 8 and 9 Rounders Team came second to Bath. Well done to Lily R, Annabelle W, Isabelle W, Annie L, Katie G, Jessica J, Lucy C, Ayesha A, Ellora M and Abhavya A!
Congratulations to the Badminton team, Rhea H and Amaani A (Year 12), Louise S (Year 11) and Cheryl Y (Year 8). The girls came second to Oxford.
Special mention goes to Rhea H, former Welsh Badminton player, who was significantly involved in the running of the Badminton events. 
We are pleased to report that Howell’s School won the overall Rally in combined points and so are the first winners of the GDST Southern Rally Cup! 
Many thanks to Ursula Pritchard, from Welsh Netball, for opening the Ceremony and to all the Howell’s staff who supported the event.
