Congratulations to the Choral Speaking Group for Welsh Learners who won first place at the National Urdd Eisteddfod that took place during the half term week in the grounds of Llancaiach Fawr, Caerphilly. The group, a mix of Year 7, 8 and 9 girls, performed a humorous poem by Mererid Hopwood entitled Y Deg Gorchymyn - an older sister giving a younger sister advice on starting secondary school. The group, who had previously won the county round in March, faced twelve other groups from all over Wales in the preliminary round on the Eisteddfod field. After a nail -biting morning, the girls were given a place in the staged and televised final against Ysgol Cwm Tawe from the Swansea Valley and Ysgol Pen y Dre from Merthyr Tydfil. They performed with confidence and ease on the stage and were placed first in Wales. The girls were also given an additional prize on the day of a weekend language course in one of the Urdd's residential centres in the Autumn Term. Llongyfarchiadau mawr i chi ferched a diolch i Mrs Prys-Davies am eich hyfforddi!
