German Department Trip to Cochem 22-27 May 2015

The German Department took a group of students from Years 8 and 9 to Cochem during May half term to explore the Rhineland and Moselle area. Here are some extracts from the blog written by the students:

Louise
Everyone really excited to go in half term; can't wait!

Aaniya and Alice - Sunday
In Trier we visited the amphitheatre - it was very interesting and beautiful. We then went to the Roman Baths which were fascinating because we saw the foundations and how they heated the baths underneath. Then we visited the history museum, which was about the Stone Age and the Roman period. It was fun and interactive. We also visited three churches from different eras which were stunning, and we lit a candle. After a fun-packed day we bought ice-creams and climbed the Porta Nigra which had over 120 steps. We were all tired after an amazing first day and can't wait for the rest of the week!

Amani – Monday
Today we visited Köln. My favourite part of the day was when we got to explore the town and saw the most beautiful Gothic cathedral. It was filled with stained glass windows and golden sculptures. Afterwards we went on a Treasure Trail. It was a fantastic day and I would do it again if I could!

Regan – Monday
The first event of the day was the Roman museum. We saw ancient weapons, statues, crowns, vases and lots more. One of the most exciting exhibits was the mosaics. We weren't allowed to touch them because they were ancient and would probably break. My favourite exhibit was the ancient coins because they were so old yet so clean! I had a great time at the museum.

Charlotte - Monday
Today we visited the Lindt chocolate factory - it was fabulous! You could learn about the history of Lindt .We even got to go inside where the trees were growing - it was very humid.  Even better was that we got to watch it all happen from scratch. How AMAZING!

Esme - Monday
Today we visited an amazing ice cream parlour. They had tons of flavours, so everyone was happy. It was a really lovely end to the day and the sun even shone when we left.

Barooj - Tuesday
To begin with, I have one word to describe the castle we visited – ‘haunted’ (I swear the eagle had it in for me!). The shops were super-expensive but still cool, and the view was fantastic. Generally, Cochem was awesome!

Eleanor
I loved the whole German trip as it was fun learning the history and making new friends!

Many thanks to Frau Sadler for organising the trip.
