The inaugural school Employers’ Day

We were extremely fortunate to have the time and commitment of eleven employers who attended our very first Employers' Day for Year 10 last Thursday, 2nd July. It was a great success with our visiting employers speaking very positively about the attributes of our students at such a tender age. Here is a student viewpoint voiced by Mansi V. and Rosie T:

For Employers' Day, we had to come prepared, with a completed CV outlining interests and achievements, and dressed up in smart work clothes. For the first part of the day we learnt about basic skills needed for a job and our Principal, Mrs Davis, talked to us about the employee selection process at Howell's. Karen Kimura, Skills Development Manager at GDST then spoke to us about preparing for interviews.W

We then each had a one-on-one interview with an employer from different companies, where we discussed our talents and achievements, followed by a self-evaluation of how the interview went. We  had a networking lunch, where we talked to another different employer in groups of around 8.. The last part of the day consisted of a presentation by Mrs Chyba and looking at feedback from the employers who interviewed us. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt new valuable skills for our future employment opportunities.
