On Tuesday 6th December, the Junior Orchestra visited The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to watch the animated film of Raymond Briggs' classic story, The Snowman, with the musical score performed live by the college’s Chamber Orchestra. Our musicians were inspired by what they saw and heard. It was a wonderful concert, directed by very well-respected musician, Dr Rob Childs. The film music was magical and really brought the animation to life. Our Junior Orchestra particularly enjoyed watching their own instrument being played and there were many comments afterwards about how disciplined the student musicians were and how they watched their conductor intently (we live in hope…!). In addition to the score of The Snowman, the Chamber Orchestra also played Sleigh Ride, by Leroy Anderson and a Christmas medley entitled The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. The audience was also encouraged to join in lively renditions of Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. It was a pleasure to take the girls to the concert and we all agreed to it was lovely just to sit and watch others perform! I am hoping it will inspire them to keep working hard at their music and in particular encourage them to keep attending music ensembles and keep practising!
