The busy tennis season continued on Monday 25th June with the U10 team taking part in the South Wales Orange Championships at David Lloyd, Cardiff. After an opening group-game defeat to Glasllwch (Newport; 1-5), the girls bounced back with a 6-0 victory over Narbeth (Pembrokeshire) and qualified for the semi-finals. Here, the team played out a thrilling contest with Swiss Valley (Llanelli), splitting the rubbers 3-3 before going down on points. Mati-Haf D, Lauren H, Rhea M and Georgie H improved as the day went on and had a great time, despite being disappointed not to progress to the final.
It was the turn of the U9 Tennis team on Tuesday 26th June, who went indoor at House of Sport to play in the South Wales Red Championships. The girls flew through their opening matches, picking up 6-0 wins against Cantref (Abergavenny), Evenlode (Vale of Glamorgan) and Rhys Prichard (Llandovery) to progress to the semi-final. Another thrilling final 4 match ensued against Newton (Swansea), with the six rubbers once again being split 3-3. Again, Howell’s were on the wrong end of the points score, going down 44-40 to the eventual champions! Xinrong Z, Isabella C, Celeste R and Anna K played some outstanding tennis throughout the day and were very unfortunate to miss out on a place in the final. It has been another great season of tennis in the Junior School with great tournament play and some busy lunchtime clubs! Well done to all of our tennis players!
