The summer showers couldn’t dampen the spirits on Sunday 1st July when over 100 students, parents, alumni, staff and friends donned their Lycra and got on their bikes for this year’s Castle Cavalcade Champagne Cycle Challenge. A group of elite cyclists led superbly by Mr Biebrach and Mr Elmes set off at 9am for an mammoth 70 mile trip. Mrs Elmes, Mr King and Mrs King led the next group for a round trip to Cardiff Bay, where everyone enjoyed an ice-cream in the sunshine. The final group, led Mr Walters, left at 1pm, for a picturesque trip up the Taff Trail to Tongwynlais. Everyone arrived back by 3pm for a glass of bubby, a delicious barbecue and the Summer Fair and were joined by many more members of the Howell’s community. The happy sound of children enjoying the mega slide, bouncy castle, paint spinning and festival crown making could be heard coming from the Headmistress’ Garden. Many thanks to all the staff, students and volunteers for all they did to make it such a special occasion.
