Wednesday 28th June 2017 saw the inaugural Champions' Dinner in aid of the Martha Bursary Award Fund. The glamorously dressed guests arrived for a drinks reception in the Day Room, spilling out into the Quad and enjoying the warm summer evening. When the gong sounded, everyone made their way to the Great Hall, which looked magnificent, with beautiful flowers arrangements and wine glasses sparkling.
Our celebrity guest host for the evening was Lyn Davies, the Olympic medal winning long-jumper, who opened the evening with a highly competitive game of Heads and Tails. A wonderful three course dinner was served before our sporting guests took to the stage for the Q&A. Unfortunately, Colin Jackson was unable to join us, foiled by the closure of the Bryn Glas tunnels, but sprinter Christian Malcom and rugby player Rhys Williams were both generous enough to step into the breach and joined Jamie Baulch on the panel, which was led by Lyn Davies.
It was a wonderful evening, with much fun and laughter, and after many generous donations to the raffle, silent auction and live auction, the total raised on the night came in at £19,000, an incredible sum and one that will go to the Martha Bursary Award Fund to give a young person the chance of an education at Howell's.
Thank you to everyone who supported the event, with generous donations of their time, of prizes for the raffle and the two auctions. Thank you to the Turner family for providing the stunning flowers for the tables, and to the Howell family, who sponsored the drinks reception.
