On the evening of Tuesday 23rd November, students from Year 12 and Year 11 competed online in the English Speaking Union Churchill Public Speaking Competition’s South Wales heat.
For the Year 12 team, Issy B (chair) and Nadia S-T (questioner) were paired with the speaker from Ysgol Gyfun Bro Edern who explored the topic: The government’s main priority should be saving the environment. Issy was awarded Best Chair, and Nadia insightfully probed the speaker. Ritija B (speaker) was paired with a team from Cardiff Sixth Form College and spoke eloquently against the motion: Be a vegan and save the world.
Lauren M of Year 11 (speaker), was paired with a second team from Cardiff Sixth Form College and gave a very personal response to the question: Should sports funding seek to do more than win medals?. Mia H (chair) and Sophie W (questioner), also in Year 11, were partnered with a team from Ysgol Gyfun Bro Edern. Their performance was judged to be the best of the evening and they progress to the next round, and Lauren was awarded Best Speaker on the night.
Well done all!
