On Monday 28th November, Mrs Davis, Mrs Eling, Miss Roberts, along with our Chair of Governors, Mrs Sue Thomas, travelled to London where they attended the GDST 150: An Evening of Celebration in the spectacular surroundings of the Science Museum. The evening celebrated the 150th birthday of the Girls’ Day School Trust; in 1872, the GDST was founded by four fearless women who dedicated themselves to giving girls a first-class education. As well as celebrate this tremendous milestone, the evening launched the GDST’s campaign to fundraise for 150 transformational and life changing bursaries, and announced the winners of the GDST Alumna of the Year Award. Dr Ellie Cannon broadcaster, health writer and NHS GP won the main award with Dr Grace Spence Green, a junior doctor who is working to challenge the narratives surrounding disability, medicine and identity, winning the Trailblazer of the Year. Our very own alumna Elizabeth Wilcox (Class of 2020) had been shortlisted for the Trailblazer of the Year and it was a fantastic achievement for her to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. It was wonderful that Elizabeth and her mother were able to attend the evening, as well as fellow Howell’s alumna from the Class of 2022, Havanna Ide. It was a very special evening, enjoyed by all. Happy birthday, GDST!
