Kaffee und Kuchen
In December, German students from Years 12 went for Kaffee und Kuchen in Pontcanna. The purpose of the visit, apart from sampling the culinary delights whilst chatting in German, was to say a big thank you and to Frau Kilinc who has been with us since September, working as a student teacher on the Erasmus programme from her university in Schwäbisch Gmund. The good news is that Frau Kilinc has enjoyed her experience here so much that she has applied to extend the Erasmus programme and is now able to stay with us until February half term. Frau Kilinc has been supporting us with examination preparation in all our German classes, as well as helping out in the Junior School. We are delighted that she is able to stay a little longer!
Christmas Baking
This week our A level Germanists were challenged to translate German recipes for traditional Christmas cakes and biscuits – and then bake them! The results were delicious! Well done to Tash, who recreated her German grandmother’s secret chocolate and raspberry cake, to Molly who made traditional gingerbread men complete with Lederhosen and to Charlie who made delicious wafer thin almond butter biscuits.
