On Wednesday 18th April, Dr Norman La Porte of the University of South Wales came to Howell's to deliver a lecture entitled 'Hitler, War and the Holocaust - how did the unspeakable happen?' to the College History students. He explained how historians have presented contrasting views and how the prevailing interpretations have altered over time. References to recent archival discoveries, such as blood-spattered documents in the formerly 'hidden' archives of communist Eastern Europe, brought the historiography right up-to-date. It was a fascinating talk, and we are grateful to Dr La Porte for helping to prepare the students for the historical debates they may encounter in examination questions on Nazi racial policy.
