Students at Howell’s School, Llandaff GDST have achieved an outstanding set of GCSE results.
46% of grades awarded were A*/8, 9
64% of grades awarded were A*- A/7, 8, 9
Mathematics is a clear strength, with 85% of students who sat the higher tier in their Maths GCSE achieving an A* or A grade.
This was the first cohort at Howell’s to sit Additional Maths, a Level 2 qualification that sits between a GCSE and an AS level and is designed to stretch the most able mathematicians. A class of 19 students elected to take this additional qualification, achieving outstanding grades that will stand them in excellent stead for their A level studies.
Principal Sally Davis commented:
“Our results were excellent across all subjects, but as a GDST school, I’m particularly pleased that we’re leading the way in Maths, a subject where women are still hugely underrepresented in Higher Education. If we want to change this, we need to inspire and encourage our young people while they are still at school.
These results are a reflection of the students’ continuous effort and excellence in all areas of life at the school whether it is in the classroom, on the sports field or in the arts. The results are also a testament to the expertise of staff in supporting students pastorally - as well as academically - and I’m sure parents and students will join me in thanking both teaching and support staff for their commitment to the school.”
