The key focus last week for Howell’s Eco Team was Waste Week, which was approached through the following activities
1) Reduce food waste, rather than throw food away. We suggested to the students that they could ask the catering staff for a smaller portion. The Eco team busied themselves by weighing the daily food waste; with the hope of seeing a reduction in the total amount thrown away during the week. The result was very encouraging (with an average weight of 14 Kg), a reduction compared to the previous year. You could try this at home, just let our Eco team know how much you have reduced your home food waste.
2) Many thanks to those who contributed bags of unwanted/unused clothes or paired shoes for last Friday's Bag-2-School collection– this clothing is welcomed and reused by those in need.
3) Plastic waste is a serious issue in our environment, so why not get involved and register your concerns with Greenpeace. https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/what-you-can-do/campaign-online/ . Through lobbying and on-line petitions, Greenpeace aim to force change for a cleaner better environment.
