On Friday 9th June, we welcomed Mr Jon Murphy to Howell’s for the final assessment phase of our application for the NACE Cymru Challenge award. At the end of an extensive schedule of interviews with parents, governors, staff and students, observations of lessons, a tour of the school and scrutiny of students’ work, we were delighted to find out that Howell’s has become one of only 54 accredited schools across the whole of Wales.
The prestigious NACE Cymru Challenge Award is given to schools who demonstrate they offer consistently high quality provision which challenges and supports all pupils, including those with high abilities, to achieve their best. NACE Chief Executive, Sue Riley, said: “Howell's School, Llandaff has worked hard to win the NACE Cymru Challenge Award status. It has shown itself to be committed to providing an education where all pupils are challenged to be the best they can be.”
Many thanks to Miss Hughes and Miss Hagerty for leading us through the award process and to all who took part. Mr Murphy was impressed with everything he saw during his visit to Howell’s, by the strong sense of family and support that came across in the interviews and by the strong leadership and management of provision, which keeps challenge for all learners at the forefront of the school’s work. A huge thank you goes to everyone who gave up their time and worked so hard in to allow us to achieve this highly respected award.
