On Thursday 14th September, Howell’s was delighted to take part in Cadw's Open Doors programme. The weather was on our side, with clear blue skies and a touch of warm autumn sunshine, and we welcomed more than 30 guests for a tour led by our outstanding archivist and historian Janet Sully. Open Doors allows visitors to see buildings that are usually closed to the pubic, giving them the chance to explore the hidden treasures of Wales’ culture and history. It was particularly interesting for our visitors to see the Great Hall and meet Rachel Howell, who is currently hard at work at school, leading the intricate restoration of the precious The Merchant of Venice cartoon. Richard Read, our Director of Finance and Operations was also delighted to talk to our visitors about the painstaking process of restoring the Grade II listed Great Hall, which was added to the main school building in 1900, forty years after Howell's first started educating girls in 1860. We look forward to participating once again next year and welcoming more visitors to Howell’s.
