Josey visits the School of Applied Science at the University of South Wales

On 16th June Josey in Year 4 spent the day at the School of Applied Science at the University of South Wales. In the morning she experienced working as a formulation scientist making both a waxy lip balm and an aqueous cream.

After meeting the creative team for the S4C science programme BOOM!, she then helped to design and practise a STEM activity looking at changing the density of water.

First she added salt to water to make an egg float. She then performed a magic trick in which we was able to float a light layer of water (coloured green) on top of a heavy layer of water (yellow), and demonstrated that if you added the heavy water to the top of the light water they actually mixed.
