Junior Hockey Highlights

Hockey teams from Year 5 and 6 travelled to Swansea to take part in the Under 11 South Wales Cup on Sunday 2nd April. Year 5 played in the Reserve Competition in the morning, taking on Gwent C, Swansea C, Whitchurch B and Penarth B in the beautiful sunshine. Some fantastic teamwork and lovely goals led to 3 wins and 1 draw during a highly successful group stage. By virtue of winning Group A, the girls progressed to the final and took on a very good Gwent B team. This was a very tough match for the girls, who despite playing very well and matching the high intensity of their opponents, narrowly lost 1-0. Runners-up for a team of girls who are all still in their infancy when it comes to Under 11 hockey is a superb achievement and we look forward to next year with excitement! Well done to Hannah B, Emily T, Amber P, Freya M, Olivia T, Jess C, Issy C, Grace C, Lola M and Olivia W who all played fantastically throughout the competition!

It was the turn of Year 6 in the South Wales Final Qualifiers in the afternoon. After an expectedly tough opening match against Gwent A, marred by an unfortunate injury for Lydia P, the girls grew in confidence throughout the day. A narrow defeat to Penarth A was then followed up by a fantastic 2-1 win against Cowbridge. A third place finish in Group A meant that the girls took on Whitchurch A in the playoff to qualify for the South Wales Finals at the end of the month. This was undoubtedly the best performance of the afternoon by the girls, and despite losing out 2-0, they should be incredibly proud of their achievement and overall progression over the course of the year. Huge well done to Mehak S, Meher D, Angelina C, Esther G, Lydia P, Lauren W, Michelle M, Sofia G and Meghan S.
